The Grainers Aloomba store environment in the 1930s.
Railway station on left and Hotel on right now gone, store in
the mid distance. I've been told by former residents this was
then the main road to Cairns. Photo from "Down Memory

Grainer family grocery store Aloomba 1932 now closed.
Apparently the store was still open for grocery business until
about 2012. Walshs Pyramid South East face in background

< Eisteddfod Cairns 1934 >
Ron is listed in the 1934 Eisteddfod program under the non de
plume "Roald" .Why "Roald"? Perhaps Ron had a schoolboy
admiration for the Norweigan explorer Roald Amundsen. It is
an interesting coincidence that in the final years of his career
Ron was working on a TV series initially based around the
short stories of another "Roald" [Dahl] - Tales of The
Unexpected.
